Zé Varunca

Stepping inside this restaurant is taking a trip to Portugal’s Alentejo region. There’s the characteristic décor (plus several framed newspaper clippings on the walls), the sound of the traditional music, and each meal starts with warm bread and sausage spread.
The food is served in colorful pottery, and many of the ingredients come directly from the town of Estremoz. On the menu there’s the inevitable Alentejo-style açorda (a bread and cod soup), the tomato soup, and the traditional regional desserts, in addition to the house dessert, which is served in a chamber pot! The check then arrives in a shotgun shell.

Entrar neste restaurante é viajar até ao Alentejo. Encontra-se uma decoração típica da região (e alguns recortes de jornais emoldurados nas paredes), ouve-se a música tradicional, e a refeição começa com pão quente e pasta de enchidos.
Os pratos são servidos em louça de barro, e muitos dos ingredientes chegam diretamente de Estremoz. Não podia faltar a açorda alentejana ou a sopa de tomate, as típicas sobremesas regionais, e ainda o doce da casa, que vem servido num penico! Já a conta é apresentada dentro de um cartucho de espingarda.
