Queluz would be just another unremarkable residential suburb if it wasn't for one major attraction -- one of Portugal's most beautiful buildings.
It's a pink rococo palace in the style of Versailles, built in 1747 with lavish formal gardens.
It was the official royal residence in the late 18th century, and remains today a setting for grand official functions and concerts thanks to the superb acoustics of the music room.
The royal family fled from here in 1807 to escape the French invasion of Portugal, taking much of the palace's furniture with them.
But the interior was since refurbished and can now be visited, giving a picture of how royalty lived.
The gardens are quite beautiful, dotted with baroque fountains and statues of mythological figures.

É um palácio rococó cor-de-rosa inspirado no de Versalhes, construído em 1747 com jardins formais.
Foi a residência real oficial nos finais do século XVIII, e é ainda hoje usado em visitas de chefes de estado, assim como para galas e concertos graças à excelente acústica da sala de música.
A família real abandonou-o em 1807 durante a invasão francesa, levando consigo grande parte do seu conteúdo.
No entanto, o interior tem sido remodelado ao longo dos anos e pode agora ser visitado, dando uma ideia de como vivia a realeza.
Os jardins são magníficos, decorados com fontes barrocas e esculturas de figuras mitológicas.
