You blink and you miss this church even if you're standing right by the door. It's found in an ordinary building downtown, but the tiny interior is quite a surprise. The original church dates from 1262 but this is the 1762 reconstruction after the first one was destroyed in the Great Earthquake.
The ceiling features an 18th-century painting of the Assumption of the Virgin, while the walls are decorated with blue-and-white tiles of the same period. They depict different events of the life of the Virgin, from Birth to "Flight into Egypt."

É possível estar mesmo à porta desta igreja sem se dar por ela. Encontra-se inserida num típico edifício pombalino, mas o seu pequeno interior é uma bela surpresa. A igreja original foi construída em 1262, mas esta é a reconstrução de 1762 depois da primeira ter ficado destruída no Grande Terramoto.
No teto vê-se uma pintura do século XVIII da Assunção de Maria, enquanto as paredes estão revestidas a azulejos azuis e brancos da mesma época. Eles ilustram vários episódios da vida da Virgem, desde o Nascimento à "Fuga para o Egito".
