If this neo-gothic monument reminds you of Paris' Eiffel Tower, you're not just seeing things. It was built by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel in 1902 (just a few years after the Eiffel Tower), with the purpose of taking people between downtown and the Bairro Alto and Chiado districts.
It is 45 meters high (147ft), and has a spiral staircase leading to a terrace and café offering 360-degree bird's-eye views of the city. Today it's mostly used by tourists, a ride that only lasts a few seconds but that's a fascinating journey back to the early 20th century.

Há uma razão porque este monumento neo-gótico lembra a tanta gente da Torre Eiffel. É porque foi desenhado por um dos discípulos de Gustave Eiffel em 1902 (pouco depois da Torre Eiffel), com a intenção de ligar a Baixa ao Chiado e Bairro Alto.
Os seus passageiros sobem e descem os seus 45 metros, tendo no topo uma vista de 360 graus sobre a cidade. Hoje é sobretudo usado por turistas, numa fascinante viagem que só dura uns segundos mas que transporta até ao princípio do século XX.
