When Catherine of Braganza was no longer the queen of England she returned to Portugal in 1693 and lived the rest of her life in this palace which today is the Military Academy.
The damage caused by the earthquake of 1755 led to major works throughout the building, including the chapel seen in the center with an imposing façade.
Up the steps by the entrance are two marble statues representing Queen Isabel and St. John the Baptist, while the interior is decorated in a style greatly influenced by São Roque Church, mixing the baroque, rococo and neoclassical styles.
Large paintings cover the ceiling and the altar, including portraits of members of the royal family by Irish artist Thomas Hickey.

Quando Catarina de Bragança deixou de ser rainha de Inglaterra e regressou a Portugal em 1693 viveu o resto da sua vida neste palácio onde hoje está instalada a Academia Militar.
Os danos causados pelo terramoto de 1755 levaram a grandes obras no edifício, incluindo a capela que se encontra ao centro com uma fachada imponente.
Subindo a escadaria encontram-se à entrada duas estátuas de mármore representando Santa Isabel e São João Baptista. Já no interior, pode admirar-se um decoração influenciada pela Igreja de São Roque, misturando o barroco, o rococó e o neoclássico.
Destacam-se grandes pinturas no teto e no altar-mor, incluindo retratos de elementos da família real pelo artista irlandês Thomas Hickey.
