RESTAURANTE PAP'AÇORDA

Restaurante Pap'Açorda

Rua da Atalaia 57/59 - Bairro Alto

Tel: 213 464 811

The restaurant responsible for turning Bairro Alto into Lisbon's trendiest dining neighborhood is still the most famous in the area.
It opened in the 1980s in a classy, chandeliered space, presenting modern Portuguese cuisine, although it's the traditional açorda (a bread stew) that brings almost everyone here, including local celebrities.
Also famous is the delicious chocolate mousse, but if you want to try it all, you must book ahead.

Customer Reviews

Críticas de Clientes

I was immediately put off by the not very welcoming attitude of the man who greeted us, as if he was doing a major favor to receive us. Then the waiters, although efficient, were not the friendliest I've ever encountered and I must say I was wondering how this restaurant could have such positive reviews from locals. It sure has a nice dining area, and the crowds seemed rather upper class, but I also concluded that the specialty "açorda" is something of an acquired taste. It's neither good or bad, although its mushy appearance isn't all that appealing to everyone. Then came the famous chocolate mousse dessert, which is brought in a big bowl and you personally have to rub off a spatula into your plate. It's original, but again not very appealing. So if I was going to rate this restaurant from 1 to 10 I'd give it a 6, which it could better with a little less pretense and a little more effort in customer service.
