This world-class museum presents the extraordinary collection of Calouste Gulbenkian, an oil magnate and art collector who left all of his art to Lisbon upon his death. A foundation was created in his name, and in addition to the museum with his collection there is a modern art center showing 20th century Portuguese and British art, and an auditorium in the foundation's main building for a rich cultural program of international artists and the foundation's own orchestra and choir.
Known for acquiring "only the best," Gulbenkian's epic collection is filled with Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Islamic, Asian, and European masterpieces, from a gold Egyptian mummy mask to Old Master paintings bought from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
There's Rembrandt's Potrait of an Old Man and Alexander the Great, Renoir's Potrait of Madame Claude Monet, Rubens' Portrait of Helene Fourment and other works by Monet, Ghirlandaio, and Van Dyck among others.
More highlights include Houdon's Diana sculpture, François-Thomas Germain silver once used by Catherine the Great, and a unique collection of René Lalique jewelry.

Este museu de nível internacional mostra a impressionante coleção de arte de Calouste Gulbenkian, um empresário arménio do setor do petróleo. Após a sua morte toda a coleção foi deixada a Portugal tendo sido criada uma fundação em seu nome.
Juntamente com o seu museu foi também construído um centro de arte moderna mostrando obras de artistas portugueses e britânicos, assim como um edifício para a sede da fundação onde se encontra um grande auditório que apresenta uma rica programação de concertos da sua orquestra e coro.
Conhecido por colecionar "só o melhor," Gulbenkian adquiriu obras primas europeias, egípcias, gregas, romanas, islâmicas e asiáticas. Algumas dessas obras foram adquiridas do Hermitage de São Petesburgo e são criações de nomes como Rembrandt ("Figura de Velho" e "Alexandre o Grande"), Renoir ("Retrato de Madame Claude Monet"), Rubens ("Retrato de Helene Fourment"), Monet, Ghirlandaio, e Van Dyck entre outros. Outros destaques são a escultura "Diana" de Houdon, um centro de mesa em prata de François-Thomas Germain pertencente a Catarina II A Grande, e uma coleção única de joias René Lalique.
